INTEGRATED M.Sc IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

M.Sc (Integrated Biotechnology) is a 10 semester integrated programme in the multidisciplinary field of Biotechnology. All students who have successfully cleared 12 th Science with A or B are eligible for this course. The course attracts meritorious students who are extremely committed and intelligent. Not only are they excellent in academics, they are at the forefront in extracurricular activities as well, winning numerous laurels and representing the college in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Biotechnology per se is an amalgamation of various interdisciplinary areas  like genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, bio informatics, virology, pharmacology, toxicology, developmental biology, regenerative biomedicine and tissue engineering and other related subjects. The course deals with direct manipulation of model organisms for production of vaccines increase in agricultural yield, development of disease resistant plants, control of environmental pollution and production of artificial matrix for tissue regeneration.

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 10 semester course, the first six semesters are common for all the students. From 7 th Semester, students can opt for specialization in any of the 3 major disciplines.

  • Three major disciplines: Industrial Biotechnology (IBT), Environmental Biotechnology (EBT) and Medical Biotechnology (MBT)

  • Practical classes include Microbiology, Analytical Biochemistry, Immunology,Recombinant DNA Technology, Enzymology, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science.

  • Field trips are organized for providing students with exposure to the current biotechnological procedures.

  • The course aims to generate adequate human resources trained in the multi-disciplinary field of Biotechnology to meet the requirement of trained personnel for the promotion of Biotechnology in India as well as abroad and equip students with theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary Biology and Biotechnology such that they can pursue research in frontier areas in Biotechnology.
